ECOLOGICAL CORRIDOR
Objective
Create an ecological corridor along with planting native Cerrado plants, in an area that will cover the Parque da Cidade to the Brasília National Park (Figure 01), and if possible, join other corridors present in the DF, making it possible to generate an increase in gene flow between the plant and animal species in the corridors.
Methodology
The Ecological Corridor will be developed in two stages, namely:
Stage 1 – The planting of native seedlings in an area of approximately 2 hectares, which will be called Bosque das Abelhas (Bee Forest), will take place in partnership with the City Park administration, the Department of the Environment, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Sports, and the Department of Education. Public and private schools in the Federal District will be visited weekly, where students will participate in environmental education activities and will be able to record and monitor the growth of the trees planted.
Stage 2 – The ecological corridor will be 600 meters wide by 10,200 meters long (Figures 2 and 3), following the principles cited in several articles on the effectiveness of ecological corridors. Its planting will also be done in partnership with schools and community outreach efforts, as is the case for Arbor Day and National Environment Week. The seedlings, machinery, and fertilizer will be provided by Novacap .
For the development and implementation of these stages, it will be essential to analyze the width of the Bee Corridor to avoid the edge effect, as the efficiency of the project will be beneficial not only to the pollinating agents of the Cerrado but also to all other species covered by this native plant extension.
